MARFA, TEXAS

WEST TEXAS? not to be rude, but i never thought to venture here on my own accord. but to my surprise, i discovered a small & beyond eccentric artist town in the middle of nowhere ...

we flew into el paso, texas rented a car and drove north to get a glimpse at white sands, new mexico before the sun went down. a gorgeous, glittering array of white sands & wind… I’ve truly never seen anything like it. recommended.

a few hours more driving south along the tex/mexican border. we drove through the night towards marfa. don’t be surprised if you see 100’s of jack rabbits pop up on the side of the road, do your best not to hit them.

EAT HERE

STELLINA :: a little more upscale for ya, definitely want to grab a glass of vino and share some plates for dinner! $$$

MARFA BURRITO :: authentica as all hell. and cheap. i loved hanging out in the back yard zone. $

COCHINEAL :: Holy shit, eat here. We ordered the blackberry, mint, lemon sangria and it blew my mind. followed by the vegan platter, are you kidding me? roasted veggies & a million on goodies... also, bread and spreads to die for. $$$

STAY HERE

Here’s a link to my airbnb, I loved it!

ST. GEORGE HOTEL :: Posh contemporary style hotel in the midst of Marfa.

HOTEL PAISANO :: Italian style boutique hotel, beautifully done from the inside and out.

EL COSMICO :: Burning man style camp ground with vintage RV’s & trailers, so rad!

OTHER FUN THINGS

CHERRY ON TOP MARFA :: this is the real reason I went to marfa. this is a 4-day long creative gathering. i can’t put to words the magic that came from this event. beautiful people, mindful practice, riveting conversation, film festival, sculpting, writing, and just buzzing off of good, clean creative energy. highly recommended.

YOGA WITH ADRIENNE :: This was our yoga instructor, she’s phenomenal. Completely approachable and truly the new-age modernist yoga instructor, no bullshit.

ARCHITECT DONALD JUDD :: The town, population 1,900, was solidified as an artist hub by the minimalist artist Donald Judd, who lived there during the ’70s and ’80s and whose Chinati Foundation still operates a museum of contemporary art.
