NORTH SHORE OAHU
ALOHA MEANS MUCH MORE THAN HELLO AND GOODBYE IN HAWAII. ALOHA IS A WAY OF BEING AND A WAY OF LIFE. HAWAII IS A PLACE THAT HAS BECOME ONE OF THE MOST TRAVELED TO TOURIST DESTINATIONS IN THE WORLD. WHILE, THIS MAKES ME HAPPY THAT PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE POWER AND INTENSITY OF HAWAII NEI, IT ALSO SADDENS ME TO THINK OF THE LACK OF RESPECT & PRESERVATION THESE ISLANDS ARE GIVEN. HAWAII JUST BECAME A PART OF THE UNITED STATES IN 1959, WHICH WAS NOT SO LONG AGO.
PRIOR TO THIS, HAWAII BURST OUT OF THE OCEAN DUE TO A VOLCANIC EXPLOSION. POLYNESIAN SETTLERS AND TAHITIAN EXPLORERS SETTLED ON THESE BEAUTIFUL ISLANDS. THERE IS A RICH HISTORY OF KINGS AND QUEENS, GREAT BATTLES AND BLOODSHED, AS WELL AS MYSTICAL AND SPIRITUAL STORIES THAT ARE SO IMPORTANT TO LEARN ABOUT AND UNDERSTAND. NOT TO MENTION... THE AMAZING HISTORY OF SURFING...
MY ONE REQUEST, AS YOU READ THESE TIPS AND TRICKS FOR A MAGICAL DAY ON NORTH SHORE O'AHU, IS THAT YOU PAY GREAT RESPECT TO THIS GREAT ISLAND, THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE, AND ALL OF ITS NATURAL BEAUTY.
Beet Box Cafe :: totally renovated and the healthiest option on North Shore. $$
Haleiwa Bowls :: for acai bowls & smoothies! $
Cholo's Mexican Restaurant :: The only Mexican food you'll find on that side of the island. $$
Coffee Gallery :: beautiful relaxing environment under a banyan tree. $
Pillbox Hike :: Located next to Sunset Elementary School, careful it can be muddy. 2 mile easy hike, great for sunset and sunrise.
Note, North Shore Oahu is famous for its epic surf, beautiful lines. This is a place where you'll find the greatest surfers from around the world gathering, but like everywhere, there's a time and a place to be there. The summer months are flat with the occasional swell (May-Aug), and winter (Dec-Feb) is the heat of the surf competition season with long days of double overhead. Paddle with caution.
